During the Summer months, a great deal of work is put into the development of new technologies for UoM’s flagship Formula Student Racecar. This is made possible through the employment of interested students who wish to contribute to this development. Candidates must be willing to learn new skills and must work well within a team. Different candidates are required as indicated below. These placements all include renumeration.
Student Mechanical Engineer
Before manufacturing starts, the entire racecar has to be first designed on CAD. Students interested in this position must be familiar with using Autodesk Inventor. The work will consist of conceptualising and designing a part of the new racecar, which will then be used on the new model. Students will have access to industry professionals which will act as mentors.
FEA & CFD
Each part is then optimised using specific software. Students interested in working in this part of the process are also encouraged to apply. The work will consist of improving parts which were specifically designed for our racecars. Students will have access to industry professionals which will act as mentors.
Electronic Systems Student Engineer
The main task will be to develop further the data acquisition system of the UOMR Racecar. This includes selecting and calibrating sensors and integrating them into the existing system. Moreover, design of data acquisition systems for other equipment will be developed. Students will have access to industry professionals which will act as mentors.
Students will be tasked with maintaining the finances of the team. This includes, but is not limited to, the maintaining of relationships with sponsors, general bookkeeping of the team, procurement of outsourced parts as well in participating in the decision making process. Students will have access to industry professionals which will act as mentors.
Students will be part of the UOMR Marketing team, which is in charge of exposing what is done within UOMR to sponsors as well as the general public. Work will include design of print material, design of online material, making of videos as well as developing the UOMR Brand in general. Accepted candidates will be given the opportunity to come up with their own proposals and pitch in their own creative input. Students will have access to industry professionals which will act as mentors.
